The Whetū Labs star

About the studio

A small studio with a big sky of ideas.

whetū (te reo Māori) · noun · star

Whetū Labs is an independent app studio in Canterbury, New Zealand. We build apps for the work people actually do – running a venue, scoring a darts night, planning the week's meals, making music after hours – and we keep building them as people use them.

Stars have long been how people found their way. That's the idea behind the name: each app should get you where you're going with as little fuss as possible.

What you can expect

The way we build

Open anywhere

Our apps run in the browser and install on phone, tablet or desktop – no app store needed.

Works offline

Once it's opened, an app keeps working without a connection.

Your data stays yours

Apps keep data on your device. Syncing between devices is something you switch on, not something we take.

Updates itself

New versions arrive in the background, and each app tells you which version you're on.

Plain-English help

Guides inside the apps, written for the people using them.

A real person

Every app has an email address that reaches the studio.
